Each-way terms finder
Each-way bets pay a fraction of the odds if your horse is placed. The fraction and the number of places depend on how many horses run and the type of race. Type the number of runners to see the usual terms.
“Standard rules” shows the terms that Betfred and William Hill both publish for UK and Irish racing. Ladbrokes does not set its terms out on its rules pages. Many bookmakers also offer extra places in big races. Always use the terms on your own betting slip.

How a place bet pays
A place bet pays the stake back plus the odds multiplied by the fraction. For £10 on a horse at 5/1 with 1/4 terms: 5/1 × 1/4 = 5/4 (1.25 to 1), so the place part returns £10 + £12.50 = £22.50 if the horse is placed. If it wins, you are also paid on the win part.
